Foundations of Church Leadership
From this perspective, church leadership is built on several fundamental and interdependent elements:
Spiritual
It flows from the leader’s relationship with God and from the work of character formation.
Scriptural
Scripture provides the foundation for understanding and exercising leadership.
Embodied
Truth and embraced values must become visible in the leader’s life and personal example.
Communal
Leadership is exercised in relationship with other leaders and through their involvement in the life and ministry of the community.
Missional
Leadership is directed toward fulfilling the mission God has entrusted to the Church.
Building on these foundations, particular attention is given to the role of leadership in processes of church change, revitalization, and multiplication, as well as to developing applied models of formation, mentoring, and consulting. Leadership is therefore understood not merely as an administrative function, but as a spiritual, biblical, relational, and transformational process directed toward the edification and health of the community and the fulfillment of its mission.
